- Tehran Accuses Washington of Violating Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity
TEHRAN – Iran has asserted its right to defend itself following what it described as violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity by the United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said during separate phone conversations with his Turkish and Saudi counterparts.
According to a statement issued by Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Araghchi condemned what he called “US military aggression” and alleged breaches of Iran’s national sovereignty. He emphasized Tehran’s “inherent right to lawful self-defense” under international principles.
Regional Tensions Rise Following Military Exchanges
The comments came after the US Central Command reported a series of strikes targeting locations in Iran, following the crash of a US AH-64 Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under discussion.
In response to the reported US actions, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had carried out strikes against American bases in the Middle East, further escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Diplomatic Outreach Amid Growing Crisis
During his calls with Turkish and Saudi officials, Araghchi also discussed the latest developments and regional security concerns, as diplomatic efforts continue amid fears of further escalation in the Gulf region.
