- Ghalibaf Says Washington Must Recognize Iran’s Rights and Fulfil Its Commitments
TEHRAN : Iran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping until the United States accepts Tehran’s conditions and fulfils commitments made in negotiations, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Sunday.
Ghalibaf said Iran had clearly communicated its position to Washington through mediators, ruling out a return to the previous negotiating framework until Tehran’s demands are addressed. “There is no possibility of returning to the previous conditions for negotiations or reopening the Strait of Hormuz unless our conditions are met, the legitimate rights of our people are recognized, and Washington fulfills its commitments,” Ghalibaf said, according to Iranian state media.
He added that Iran’s diplomatic position had been clearly communicated and that Tehran would not accept what it described as unilateral pressure in the negotiations.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy and shipping corridor, making its continued closure a major concern for regional trade and international energy markets. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Tehran had conveyed its conditions for ending the conflict to the United States through Qatari mediators and was awaiting a response from President Donald Trump.
Rezaei said Iran’s conditions include an end to the war, the release of frozen Iranian funds and the lifting of the US naval blockade. The latest statements come as Qatar continues efforts to facilitate communication between Tehran and Washington. Iranian officials have indicated that any resumption of negotiations would depend on Washington responding to the conditions conveyed through the mediators.
The dispute over the Strait of Hormuz remains closely linked to the broader diplomatic and security negotiations between Iran and the United States, with developments carrying significant implications for regional stability, maritime commerce and global energy supplies
