British High Commission in Islamabad hosted a landmark interfaith Iftar dinner

ISLAMABAD – In a powerful display of unity and mutual respect, the British High Commission in Islamabad hosted a landmark interfaith Iftar dinner, bringing together representatives from 11 different religious communities from across Pakistan. The event was designed to celebrate the nation’s rich tapestry of faiths and underscore the importance of inclusive dialogue.

Leaders and members from Pakistan’s diverse religious landscape, including prominent figures from the Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, and other minority communities, gathered to share a meal and engage in meaningful conversation. The gathering served as a vibrant platform to promote social inclusion and highlight the vast, often underrepresented, religious communities that contribute to the nation’s cultural heritage.

Beyond the breaking of the fast, the evening was dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding between faiths. Guests discussed the critical importance of mutual respect, empathy, and ensuring equal participation for all citizens, regardless of their religious background.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott CMG OBE addressed the attendees, emphasizing the symbolic and practical importance of such gatherings. She drew attention to a often-overlooked symbol of national unity, stating:

“The white in Pakistan’s flag is not decorative: it represents a commitment to dignity and equal belonging. Events like this bring us together around empathy, connection, and a reminder that difference is not a barrier but a strength.”

Her remarks resonated deeply with the attendees, reinforcing the message that Pakistan’s strength lies in its diversity.

The interfaith Iftar is a key component of the British High Commission’s ongoing commitment to supporting dialogue between different communities. The event aligns with its broader mission to encourage equal rights and opportunities for all citizens, fostering an environment where every individual feels a sense of belonging and can participate fully in the nation’s progress.

The gathering was met with positive feedback from the religious leaders present, who appreciated the platform to share their perspectives and break bread with fellow Pakistanis from different walks of life. The event stands as a testament to the power of shared humanity and the potential for unity in diversity.
