Archbishop Germano Penemote Meets Federal Minister for Human Rights in Islamabad

Archbishop Germano Penemote and Federal Minister for Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar,

Islamabad, November 3 – Archbishop Germano Penemote, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to Pakistan, called on Federal Minister for Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, in Islamabad today. Minister of State for Law and Justice, Barrister Aqeel Malik, also attended the meeting.

During the discussion, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar conveyed the government’s deep appreciation for the longstanding and invaluable contributions of the Christian community to Pakistan, particularly in the fields of education, healthcare, and social welfare. He noted that Christian missionary institutions have played a vital role in shaping generations of Pakistanis and have made significant contributions to nation-building through their commitment to public service.

The meeting focused on a broad range of government initiatives aimed at protecting and empowering religious minorities across the country. These include enhanced security and restoration of places of worship, strengthened mechanisms to promote equality and safeguard minority rights, as well as educational scholarships and financial assistance for underprivileged minority families.

Archbishop Penemote expressed his gratitude for the government’s continued efforts to promote inclusion and protect minority rights. He commended the positive impact of these measures and reaffirmed the Catholic Church’s commitment to fostering peace, social harmony, and interfaith dialogue in Pakistan.

Senator Tarar reiterated Pakistan’s constitutional and international commitments to human rights, underscoring the Ministry’s resolve to build an inclusive society where every citizen—regardless of faith—enjoys equal rights, security, and opportunities to participate meaningfully in national life.
