The thrilling second round of the “Desert X Prix” race, a part of the Extreme E 2024 series featuring electric off-road SUVs, came to a close today in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The event, held from February 17-18, marked the fourth consecutive year of its occurrence in Saudi Arabia, featuring 16 racers representing eight international teams.
Chairman of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation and the Saudi Motorsport Company Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdullah bin Faisal, presented the first-place trophy to the duo from the ACCIONA Sainz XE Team, who emerged victorious in the final race of the electrifying second round.
The team, comprising of Spanish racer Laia Sanz and Jamaican driver Fraser McConnell, completed the race with an impressive time of 10 minutes and 54 seconds.
Assistant Minister of Sport for Sport Affairs, Adwa Al-Arifi, bestowed the award on the first-place team co-owner Carlos Sainz.
Meanwhile, Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E team secured a commendable second place, finishing a mere 1.40 seconds behind, while Veloce Racing team claimed the third spot, with a gap of 4.66 seconds.
Notably, Rosberg X Racing team clinched fourth place, trailing by 11.02 seconds.
The Extreme E series, comprising a total of five races, aims to shed light on the impact of climate change and promote the adoption of electric vehicles in racing, thus contributing to environmental sustainability and clean energy. These objectives are in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and its ongoing initiatives.
