  • Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer and Paul Griffiths Discuss World-Class Infrastructure, Clean Energy Integration and Net-Zero Ambitions

DUBAI — Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), held discussions with Paul Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Airports, to strengthen cooperation and coordination under the two organisations’ strategic partnership.

The meeting focused on projects and innovative solutions aimed at developing world-class infrastructure, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting Dubai’s long-term ambitions for sustainable economic growth.

The discussions highlighted Dubai’s commitment to integrating advanced energy solutions into its expanding aviation infrastructure, reinforcing the emirate’s position as a global leader in sustainability, innovation and future-ready development.

Al Maktoum International Airport Central to Dubai’s Sustainable Infrastructure Vision

Al Tayer emphasised the strategic importance of Dubai Airports, particularly the new Al Maktoum International Airport and its planned expansion, within DEWA’s infrastructure and clean-energy planning.

He noted that, in line with the vision and directives of Dubai’s leadership, cooperation between DEWA and Dubai Airports aims to support the development of airports that prioritise energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and advance the transition towards net-zero operations.

The partnership reflects Dubai’s broader ambition to establish highly efficient and environmentally responsible infrastructure that can serve as an international benchmark for sustainable aviation development.

DEWA’s Reliable Network Supports Dubai’s Expanding Infrastructure

Al Tayer highlighted the strength, reliability and readiness of DEWA’s electricity and water networks to meet the growing requirements of Dubai’s major infrastructure projects.

He described cooperation with Dubai Airports as a pioneering example of integrating energy efficiency and sustainability into large-scale infrastructure development.

Through coordinated planning and investment in advanced energy technologies, the two organisations aim to ensure that Dubai’s expanding aviation facilities are supported by reliable utilities while contributing to the emirate’s environmental objectives.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park Powers Clean-Energy Ambitions

Al Tayer highlighted the significant contribution of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park to Dubai’s clean-energy transition.

The solar park’s installed capacity has reached 4,660 megawatts (MW), with plans to exceed 8,000 MW by 2030, reflecting the expansion of Dubai’s renewable-energy ambitions beyond the project’s original 5,000 MW target.

The project represents a cornerstone of Dubai’s efforts to diversify its energy mix, reduce carbon emissions and support the development of a competitive green economy.

Advancing Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050

The DEWA–Dubai Airports partnership supports the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.

These initiatives aim to achieve 100% clean-energy production for Dubai’s energy requirements by 2050, alongside efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of development.

By aligning energy infrastructure with aviation expansion, Dubai is seeking to demonstrate how rapid economic growth, international connectivity and environmental responsibility can advance together.

Strategic Partnership Reinforces Dubai’s Global Leadership

The discussions between Al Tayer and Griffiths underscore the importance of institutional cooperation in delivering Dubai’s long-term infrastructure and sustainability goals.

Through investment in renewable energy, reliable utility networks and innovative infrastructure solutions, DEWA and Dubai Airports are working to support an aviation sector equipped for future growth while contributing to the emirate’s wider clean-energy transition.

The partnership reflects Dubai’s determination to combine world-class connectivity with responsible resource management, reinforcing its ambitions to remain a leading global destination for business, tourism and sustainable development.
