- $10 Million Emergency Assistance Package Supports Relief and Recovery Efforts
ABU DHABI : The United Arab Emirates and Colombia have announced the arrival of a UAE humanitarian aid shipment to support communities affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10.
The shipment forms part of the $10 million in urgent humanitarian assistance announced by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the aftermath of the disaster. The aid package includes food, hygiene supplies and cleaning products, with the items selected according to needs identified by Colombian authorities in coordination with affected communities.UAE procured the supplies from markets in the Republic of Paraguay, reflecting efforts to utilize regional production and logistical capacities to accelerate the delivery of emergency assistance.
Dr. Tareq Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, said the arrival of the shipment represented an important step in fulfilling the UAE’s $10 million humanitarian commitment.
He reaffirmed the UAE’s solidarity with the Colombian government and people as they continue relief, recovery and stabilization efforts following the earthquake.
Al Ameri also stressed that the UAE would remain a committed partner as Colombia’s needs gradually transition from immediate emergency relief toward rehabilitation and reconstruction.
He added that the UAE would maintain close coordination with Colombian authorities to ensure humanitarian assistance reaches the communities most in need.
Colombia Welcomes UAE Solidarity
Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Bula welcomed the arrival of the UAE assistance, describing it as a tangible expression of the strong friendship and close cooperation between the two countries.
“On behalf of the Government of Colombia, we express our sincere gratitude for this gesture of solidarity with the communities affected by the earthquake,” Bula said. Both governments described the shipment as an important step toward fulfilling the humanitarian commitment made following the earthquake.
They also highlighted the initiative as an example of how humanitarian financing can be combined with regional production and logistical networks to deliver essential assistance to disaster-affected communities more rapidly and efficiently.
The UAE said it would continue working closely with Colombian authorities as recovery efforts progress, supporting the transition from emergency response to longer-term rehabilitation and reconstruction.
