- Moscow says diplomatic missions are coordinating with central authorities to facilitate voting by Russian citizens abroad
MOSCOW: Russian diplomatic missions abroad are taking comprehensive measures to ensure security and the smooth functioning of polling stations overseas, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
Zakharova told reporters that Russian diplomatic missions had received the necessary instructions and were working to organize the operations of headquarters established at diplomatic missions, with particular attention to security arrangements.
“Our teams abroad are currently doing everything to organize the work of the headquarters set up at our diplomatic missions, including the security component. They have received all the relevant instructions,” she said.
Real-Time Coordination with Election Authorities
According to Zakharova, diplomatic personnel are maintaining continuous communication with authorities in Moscow, particularly the Central Election Commission, to coordinate preparations and respond to developments as they arise.
She said Russian diplomatic missions were working in “literally real time” with the relevant authorities to ensure effective coordination throughout the electoral process.
Ensuring Citizens’ Voting Rights
Zakharova emphasized that the measures were aimed at enabling Russian citizens residing or staying abroad to participate in the electoral process.
“We are doing everything to ensure that Russian citizens have the opportunity to exercise their right, as well as their duty,” she said.
The Foreign Ministry’s statement comes as Russian diplomatic missions continue preparations for the conduct of voting abroad, including coordination on organizational and security arrangements at overseas polling locations.
