CASABLANCA: Morocco’s Public Prosecutor has ordered the release of journalist Ali Lmrabet while confirming that the judicial investigation and technical examinations into allegations related to his online publications will continue.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the King’s Prosecutor at the Casablanca Criminal Court said the decision was taken after reviewing the case file and relevant legal documents.
Lmrabet appeared before the Public Prosecutor on Wednesday, where he was questioned in accordance with Moroccan law regarding the allegations under investigation. The prosecutor’s office emphasized that the proceedings were conducted while ensuring all legal rights and procedural guarantees afforded to him, including the right to undergo a medical examination.
The statement further noted that the Public Prosecutor ordered the return of all items seized during the investigation, including two computers, a USB storage device and a mobile phone.
According to the prosecutor, the investigation remains ongoing and will include additional technical assessments before a final legal decision is taken. The appropriate legal measures will be determined upon completion of the investigation.
Ali Lmrabet was arrested on Sunday, July 12, 2026, upon his arrival at Tangier Airport. Authorities said the investigation concerns online posts allegedly containing defamatory and abusive remarks directed at individuals and institutions, as well as statements deemed contemptuous toward legally established public bodies.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office reiterated that the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the applicable legal procedures and that further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
