- Mark Rutte Says Washington’s Response Was ‘Absolutely Necessary’ as Alliance Leaders Gather in Ankara
ANKARA: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Wednesday defended the latest US military strikes against Iran, describing the operation as “absolutely necessary” in response to what he said were Iranian violations of the existing ceasefire.
Speaking to reporters ahead of a summit of NATO leaders in Ankara, Rutte said the United States was justified in responding decisively after Tehran allegedly breached the ceasefire agreement.
“When you have a ceasefire and Iran is basically violating the ceasefire, I think it is totally crucial that the United States reacts forcefully,” Rutte said.
His remarks came amid heightened regional tensions following renewed military exchanges between Washington and Tehran, raising fresh concerns over stability in the Middle East and the future of diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation.
The NATO chief’s comments underscore the Alliance’s concern over the deteriorating security situation, as member states continue to monitor developments closely while emphasizing the importance of maintaining regional stability and safeguarding international security.
