TEHRAN: Iran has clarified that its willingness to discuss its nuclear program with the United States does not mean Tehran will accept all conditions proposed by Washington during future negotiations.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said that any upcoming discussions would not represent an acceptance of what he described as the opposing side’s demands.

“Personal negotiations that may take place in the future will not mean accepting the enemy’s position,” Khamenei said in an address to the nation.

Iran Warns Against Excessive Demands

Khamenei added that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had assured that Tehran’s negotiating team would reject any excessive demands from the United States.

The statement comes as both sides prepare for possible talks following a recent agreement aimed at reducing tensions and opening a path for diplomatic engagement.

US-Iran Preliminary Talks Expected in Switzerland

Earlier, Reuters reported, citing the Swiss Foreign Ministry, that US and Iranian officials are expected to hold preliminary discussions in Bürgenstock on June 19 to discuss the implementation of the agreement reached between the two countries.

However, Iranian news agency Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran has not yet made a final decision regarding participation in the Switzerland talks.

The potential meeting is being viewed as an important step in determining whether the recent diplomatic breakthrough can lead to broader negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program and regional security issues.
