- Washington Describes Operation as a “Proportional Response” Following Apache Helicopter Incident
NEW YORK : The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that American forces carried out precision strikes against Iranian military facilities, including radar installations, air defense systems, and ground command posts near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CENTCOM, the operation was conducted on June 9 under the direction of the US Commander-in-Chief, following the downing of a US Army AH-64 Apache helicopter.
Targets Included Radar and Command Facilities
In a statement, CENTCOM said its forces targeted Iranian air defense infrastructure, ground control stations, and surveillance radar sites using precision-guided munitions launched from US Air Force and Navy fighter aircraft.
The command said the strikes were aimed at reducing threats to American forces and international commercial vessels operating in regional waters.
“US Central Command forces remain vigilant and prepared to defend against unjustified aggression,” the statement said.
Rising Tensions Around the Strait of Hormuz
The operation comes amid heightened tensions in the region, particularly around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy transit route.
CENTCOM described the strikes as a defensive action in response to recent attacks targeting US personnel and commercial shipping in the area.
The latest developments have further increased concerns over regional security and the potential impact on maritime movement and international trade.
