- Surprise Visit Highlights Alliance Solidarity With Ukraine
KYIV: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday for an unannounced visit, Ukraine’s national railway operator said, following a series of large-scale and deadly Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital.
Ukraine’s railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed Rutte’s arrival at Kyiv’s main railway station, describing the visit as an important symbol of support and solidarity from the NATO alliance.
“Today at the Kyiv railway station, we are welcoming NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. This visit is extremely important, just like all previous ones, because it represents a gesture of solidarity and support from the Alliance for our country,” the railway operator said in a statement shared on social media.
Visit Comes Amid Intensified Attacks
Rutte’s trip comes as Kyiv continues to recover from recent Russian strikes that caused casualties and damage across the city. The visit is seen as a message of continued international backing for Ukraine as the war enters another critical phase.
The NATO chief’s presence in the Ukrainian capital underscores the alliance’s commitment to maintaining close cooperation with Kyiv and supporting the country amid ongoing security challenges.
Symbol of International Support
Ukrainian officials welcomed the visit as a demonstration of NATO’s political support and a reminder of the alliance’s continued engagement with Ukraine.
The trip follows previous visits by senior Western officials aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and coordinating assistance for Ukraine during the ongoing conflict.
