KUWAIT CITY : Kuwait has temporarily suspended commercial flight operations after a drone attack struck Kuwait International Airport, causing damage to the passenger terminal and injuring several people, authorities said.
Defense Ministry spokesperson Brig. Gen. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi stated that “a number of hostile drones” targeted the airport’s passenger building, resulting in severe damage to the facility and injuries among airport personnel and civilians.
The attack forced authorities to halt commercial aviation activities as security agencies assessed the situation and worked to restore normal operations.
The drone strike occurred amid escalating regional tensions, following an exchange of missile attacks between Iran and the United States overnight. The US military said it had carried out strikes against an Iranian military facility in response to Iranian missiles fired toward Kuwait and Bahrain.
Kuwaiti authorities said security measures had been intensified around critical infrastructure as investigations into the attack continued.
