NEW YORK — The individual who opened fire near the White House complex has been identified as Nasire Best, according to a report by NBC News citing multiple sources familiar with the investigation.
According to the report, five sources stated that the suspect had a documented history of unspecified mental health disorders.
Shooter Allegedly Known to Secret Service
Separately, the New York Post reported that the suspect allegedly believed he was Jesus Christ, while investigators continue to examine the circumstances and possible motives behind the incident.
The newspaper further stated that Best was reportedly known to the Secret Service due to repeated incidents of loitering near various security entry points around the White House complex. Sources cited by the publication also indicated that the suspect had previously violated a court order barring him from approaching the area.
