RABAT – The Republic of Madagascar has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of United Nations member states, expressing clear support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco.
This position was highlighted in a joint communiqué issued following talks held on Tuesday in Rabat between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Madagascar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alice N’Diaye.
In the joint statement, the Republic of Madagascar reiterated its support for the exclusive role of the United Nations, as well as the continued efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy aimed at achieving a political solution to the Sahara issue. Madagascar also welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, noting that “a genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty could be one of the most feasible solutions” to the regional dispute.
The Malagasy government further expressed its support for Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative, describing it as part of the growing international momentum backing the Kingdom’s approach under the leadership of Mohammed VI. The statement underscored the increasing international consensus in favor of Morocco’s initiative as a credible and realistic framework for a lasting political resolution.
