Backed by a generous US$400,000 contribution from Japan, the project will focus on vulnerable and flood-affected communities in South Punjab, helping thousands of people better prepare for future climate-related emergencies.

Japan Leading Global Support for Climate Resilience in Pakistan

Pakistan continues to face growing threats from climate change, particularly devastating floods that have impacted millions of citizens, damaged infrastructure, disrupted livelihoods, and placed pressure on public services.

Recognising these urgent challenges, Japan has stepped forward once again as a trusted development partner, helping Pakistan build stronger local systems to reduce disaster risks and protect communities.

This latest initiative reflects Japan’s global leadership in humanitarian cooperation, disaster risk management, and people-centred development.

3,000 Pakistanis to Benefit Directly from Japanese Support

Over the next 12 months, the programme is expected to directly benefit 3,000 people, with a special focus on women and youth.

The initiative will equip local communities with practical tools to:

  • Improve early warning communication systems
  • Strengthen emergency preparedness planning
  • Enhance first-response coordination
  • Build local leadership during disasters
  • Increase long-term resilience to climate shocks

By investing in community skills and preparedness, Japan is helping create safer and more self-reliant communities in Pakistan.

Japanese Ambassador Reaffirms Commitment to Pakistan

H.E. Mr. AKAMATSU Shuichi, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, said Japan remains firmly committed to supporting Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen resilience against natural disasters.

He noted that through this initiative, Japan aims to advance a human security approach that empowers communities, protects vulnerable populations, and improves preparedness for future risks.

His remarks highlight Japan’s consistent policy of combining humanitarian aid with long-term development support.

UNDP Praises Japan’s Visionary Partnership

Dr. Samuel Rizk, Resident Representative of UNDP Pakistan, praised the partnership, stressing that resilience is not only about responding to disasters but also about building systems that allow communities to anticipate shocks, withstand crises, and recover sustainably.

He noted that Japan’s support enables locally driven solutions that make recovery more inclusive, durable, and community-focused.

Japan and Pakistan: A Trusted Development Partnership

The initiative builds on the strong and longstanding relationship between Japan, Pakistan, and UNDP, marked by cooperation in disaster management, infrastructure, education, health, and economic development.

Japan has consistently played a constructive role in helping Pakistan navigate crises while supporting long-term national progress.

A Model of International Cooperation

As climate threats increase across the region, Japan’s timely assistance demonstrates how responsible global partnerships can deliver real results on the ground.

Through practical investment, technical cooperation, and a strong humanitarian vision, Japan is helping Pakistan build a safer, stronger, and more resilient future.
