ISLAMABAD – In a significant move to deepen bilateral parliamentary engagement, the Russian Federation will send a high-level delegation to Pakistan for the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) from November 11-12.

The delegation will be co-led by two prominent figures in Russian politics: Senator Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council (the upper house), and Mr. Aleksandr Babakov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma (the lower house). Their participation underscores the importance Moscow places on its multifaceted relationship with Islamabad.

Adding to the delegation’s significance is the inclusion of Vladimir Chizhov, Chair of the Russia-Pakistan Friendship Group. Mr. Chizhov’s presence is particularly notable, as he visited Pakistan earlier this year as an international observer during the February 2024 general elections, demonstrating a sustained commitment to the bilateral relationship.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Russian delegates are scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Pakistani parliamentary leadership. These talks are expected to focus on advancing bilateral cooperation, with a special emphasis on strengthening the institutional framework of parliamentary diplomacy.
This visit is seen as a concrete step towards enhancing political understanding and fostering a deeper partnership between the two nations.
