Islamabad – Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, held a productive meeting with the Ambassador of Egypt to Pakistan, Dr. Ihab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan, reaffirming the strong and growing partnership between Egypt and Pakistan in the fields of agriculture and food security.

The meeting, held at the Ministry in Islamabad, focused on expanding collaboration in climate-resilient agriculture, modern irrigation technologies, and food systems innovation. Minister Hussain praised Egypt’s outstanding achievements in transforming its agricultural sector, particularly its leadership in water resource management, desert farming, and adoption of high-efficiency irrigation methods.

He emphasized Pakistan’s keen interest in learning from Egypt’s successful model, especially in the areas of drip irrigation, seed technology, and climate-smart farming. Egypt’s Ambassador Dr. Ihab Hassan was recognized for his proactive role in deepening these strategic ties and advancing technical collaboration.

A key highlight of the meeting was the agreement to formalize cooperation between the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and Egypt’s leading institutions — the Agricultural Research Centre (ARC) and the Egyptian International Centre for Agriculture (EICA). This initiative is expected to culminate in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will strengthen joint research, capacity building, and knowledge exchange.

Progress on a livestock sector MoU was also reviewed, covering dairy, animal health, halal meat production, and genetics — areas where Egypt’s experience could significantly benefit Pakistan. The two sides also discussed post-harvest challenges, with Egypt offering technical support to help Pakistan reduce wheat storage losses through modern silo systems.

The meeting concluded with Minister Hussain expressing deep appreciation for Egypt’s unwavering support and expertise. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Egypt — a trusted and historic partner — and expressed optimism that these initiatives will lead to sustainable food security and economic resilience in both nations.
