U.S. Embassy Celebrates 249th Independence Day, Reinforcing Strong Ties with Pakistan
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended greetings to the United States on its 249th Independence Day, stating that bilateral ties are entering a “new era” of cooperation and understanding.
Islamabad – The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad hosted a grand reception to commemorate the 249th anniversary of American independence, bringing together dignitaries, The event was graced by the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, senior military officials, prominent media personalities, and a wide array of guests from diverse sectors including business, fashion, sports, and civil society.

Speaking at a ceremony hosted by the US Embassy in Islamabad on Wednesday, he congratulated the American people and expressed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening relations between the two nations.
“On the 249th Independence Day of the United States, I extend heartfelt congratulations,” Sharif said. “We are committed to further strengthening our relations, and both countries are entering a new era of partnership, particularly in areas like trade, agriculture, education, and healthcare,” he added.

He mentioned the shared democratic values between the two nations, citing the wisdom of the US founding fathers and their alignment with the ideals of Pakistan’s founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
During his address, the prime minister also thanked US President Donald Trump for his role in facilitating a ceasefire. He praised Trump’s dedication to peace and economic growth, highlighting that Trump’s belief in promoting global peace had led to de-escalation between Pakistan and India.
“President Trump has shown, beyond a doubt, that he is a man of peace, advocating for trade, investment, and a de-escalation of conflict,” he added.
A Night of Diplomacy and Celebration
Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, leading the event in the absence of a U.S. ambassador, delivered a stirring address that highlighted the deep-rooted friendship and expanding cooperation between the United States and Pakistan. The celebration was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers, senior military officials, foreign diplomats, and notable personalities from media, business, sports, and civil society.
In a gesture reflecting cultural appreciation, Baker welcomed guests in both English and Urdu, stating, “The United States and Pakistan have stood together through good times and bad, from development to defense, from health to education.” She reflected on her personal connection to Pakistan, recalling her previous diplomatic posting and praising the country’s resilience, vibrant culture, and the hospitality of its people.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Baker emphasized the growing scope of U.S.-Pakistan relations, underpinned by shared values of liberty, equality, and opportunity. She lauded the decades-long contributions of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Pakistan, particularly in healthcare, education, food security, and economic development. “USAID’s legacy in Pakistan will continue to uplift communities for generations,” she remarked.
On security cooperation, Baker commended Pakistan’s efforts in counterterrorism, specifically highlighting the capture and extradition of an ISIS-K terrorist linked to the Abbey Gate attack in Afghanistan. “This milestone demonstrates the strength of our joint efforts in combating extremism,” she said.
Economic and Regional Cooperation
The Chargé d’Affaires also spotlighted economic collaboration, referencing the recent Pakistan Critical Minerals Investment Forum and expanding partnerships in technology, digital innovation, and trade. She praised Pakistan’s strides in industrial and digital growth, signaling optimism for future investments.
In a significant diplomatic acknowledgment, Baker noted the U.S. role in facilitating dialogue between Pakistan and India, reiterating Washington’s commitment to regional stability.
A Festive Evening with American Flair
The celebration was infused with patriotic spirit, featuring classic American cuisine, live performances by the U.S. Air Force Band, and red, white, and blue décor. Baker extended gratitude to the event’s sponsors and organizers for crafting an evening that honored both American independence and the strong U.S.-Pakistan bond.
Quoting former President Donald Trump, she concluded, “The U.S.-Pakistan relationship is great—and the best is yet to come.”
