Pakistan, Bangladesh Hold Key Talks After 15 Years to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Islamabad – The sixth round of Foreign Secretary-Level Consultations (FSLC) between Pakistan and Bangladesh concluded in Dhaka today, marking the first such high-level dialogue in 15 years. The discussions aimed at revitalizing bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation.

Pakistan’s delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Ms. Amna Baloch, while Bangladesh’s side was headed by Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin. The talks covered a wide range of issues, including political ties, trade and economic cooperation, agriculture, environment, education, cultural exchanges, defence collaboration, and people-to-people contacts. Both sides described the engagement as “constructive and forward-looking,” held in a cordial atmosphere.

High-Level Meetings
Following the consultations, Foreign Secretary Baloch met with Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain, where they discussed regional matters, including the revival of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and enhancing trade relations.

In a separate meeting with Chief Adviser, Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus, discussions focused on trade and investment opportunities, youth engagement, regional integration, and SAARC’s revitalization. Prof. Yunus shared his vision for stronger Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, while Ms. Baloch conveyed greetings from Pakistan’s leadership.

Next Steps
The two nations agreed to hold the seventh round of FSLC in Islamabad in 2026, signaling a renewed commitment to sustained dialogue.

This re-engagement comes after a prolonged gap, reflecting both countries’ willingness to deepen cooperation and address shared regional challenges.
