In addition to intercepting 14 of these projectiles, the Ukrainian Air Force managed to shoot down a Tu-22M3 strategic bomber that Russia uses to launch Kh-22 missiles.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the bomber crashed in the Stavropol region in southern Russia while returning to its base after carrying out a combat mission.

“The pilots catapulted. Three crew members were evacuated by rescue teams. The search is underway for one of the pilots,” states the military statement cited by the official TASS agency.

The governor of the Stavropol region, Vladimir Vladimirov, later reported the death of one of the crew members found by rescue teams.

Defense also points out that the plane did not carry missiles and fell in an unpopulated area without causing damage.

“According to preliminary data, the cause of the breakdown was a technical defect,” adds the official communication.

The Russians also fired 14 Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones into Ukrainian territory, which were all shot down by Ukrainian defenses.
