12 Killed, 309 Injured in Attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport

DOHA: At least 12 people have been killed and 309 others injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom’s General Authority of Civil Aviation has confirmed.

In a statement updating its earlier announcement, the authority said the fatalities included four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshi nationals, and one citizen each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.

The authority added that the injured included several people in critical condition. All victims are receiving the necessary medical treatment at hospitals, while an assessment is underway to determine the full extent of the material damage caused by the attack.

According to The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the incident, Terminals 3 and 4 sustained significant damage following direct missile strikes. Part of the terminal building’s roof reportedly collapsed onto people during the attack.

Meanwhile, a source within air traffic control services told media that the international airport was expected to remain closed until at least the end of Sunday, October 11.

The incident has caused significant disruption at one of Saudi Arabia’s major aviation hubs, with the full extent of the damage and the circumstances surrounding the attack still being assessed.
