- CENTCOM Says Operations Aim to Weaken Iran’s Military Capabilities and Protect Maritime Security in the Strait of Hormuz
NEW YORK: The United States has carried out another major round of military strikes against Iran, targeting approximately 90 military installations in a continued effort to degrade Tehran’s ability to threaten international shipping and maritime security in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on X, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces conducted the latest strikes on July 8, focusing on a wide range of Iranian military assets.
“U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces completed an additional round of strikes against Iran to further degrade Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping and innocent civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz,” the command said.
According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted approximately 90 military sites, including air defense systems, coastal surveillance installations, missile and drone storage facilities, naval assets, and military logistics infrastructure along Iran’s coastline.
The latest operation follows another wave of U.S. strikes carried out a day earlier, during which approximately 80 Iranian military targets were hit, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
Iran Warns Strait of Hormuz Will Remain Under Its Conditions
Responding to the latest U.S. military action, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the future of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz would depend on Tehran’s conditions rather than pressure from Washington.
Ghalibaf warned that the strategically important waterway would be reopened only when Iran’s demands are met, asserting that the United States can no longer expect its threats or unfulfilled commitments to go unanswered.
He further stated that U.S. threats and what he described as repeated breaches of promises “are no longer cost-free,” signaling Tehran’s determination to respond to continued military and political pressure.
Strategic Waterway Remains at the Center of Rising Tensions
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints for global energy supplies, remains at the center of escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. The latest exchange of military action and political warnings has heightened concerns over regional stability and the security of international shipping through the Gulf.
