- A Solemn Tribute to Russia’s Defenders
- Vladimir Putin noted that February 23 has been marked in Russia for many decades now as one of the most important national holidays
MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a heartfelt video address commemorating Defender of the Fatherland Day, honoring the nation’s military heritage and those who safeguard its sovereignty.
“Comrades, friends, I cordially congratulate all citizens of Russia, our veterans, military and civilian personnel of the Armed Forces on Defender of the Fatherland Day,” the Supreme Commander-in-Chief declared, opening his address to the nation.
A Legacy of Honor and Sacrifice
President Putin emphasized the profound significance of February 23, noting that for many decades it has stood as “one of the most important national holidays” in Russia. The day has become, he explained, “a symbol of the people’s sincere love for their defenders, of pride in the Army and Navy.”
The President paid special tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to military service: “to those who have devoted their lives to serving the Fatherland, who reliably stand guard over its sovereignty and security, who are loyal to their military oath and conscientiously fulfill their professional duty.”
Remembering Generations of Service
In his address, Putin reflected on Russia’s rich military heritage, stating: “For generations, we have been cherishing the memory of every chapter of our Fatherland’s military history.” He attributed this legacy to “the military art of the great commanders, the unbending will and courage of soldiers and commanders, our ancestors, who, at the first call of the Motherland, stood up and took their place in the ranks alongside their comrades-in-arms.”
Strengthening the Nation’s Defenses
Looking forward, the President outlined strategic plans to strengthen Russia’s Armed Forces, highlighting the importance of unity among the peoples of Russia as a cornerstone of national defense.
A Message of Gratitude and Confidence
Concluding his address with powerful words of appreciation, Putin described the nation’s military personnel as “the pillar and support of the state and society,” characterizing them as “true patriots and people of special breed and unbending will.”
“I thank all Russia’s military personnel for their valiant service,” the President continued. “My very best wishes to your families and friends. The people of Russia stand with you and believe in you. Happy holiday!”
