- Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq says United Nations encourages all initiatives aimed at advancing peace talks
UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations supports all efforts aimed at facilitating negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, UN Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General Farhan Haq said, as diplomatic contacts involving US negotiators continue in an effort to explore possible avenues for ending the conflict.
“We encourage all efforts towards negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation,” Haq told TASS in response to questions about recent visits by US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv.
His remarks came as Washington continues diplomatic engagement with both sides in an effort to identify potential areas for negotiations and advance prospects for a settlement.
Earlier, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said Witkoff and Kushner had agreed to convey to Ukrainian officials assessments and proposals outlined by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding possible approaches to resolving the conflict.
The latest diplomatic contacts come amid continued international efforts to create conditions for direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv and to explore pathways toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
