Rana Tanveer Hussain Explores Strategic Agricultural Partnership with Sudan to Promote Regional Food Security and Investment
Islamabad – In a significant step toward deepening bilateral relations, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain, held a high-level meeting with H.E. Salih Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Siddig, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Pakistan. The two dignitaries engaged in productive discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation in the agricultural sector—a vital area for both nations striving for food security and sustainable development.
The meeting reaffirmed Minister Hussain’s commitment to fostering international agricultural partnerships aligned with Pakistan’s vision for investment-driven growth, food resilience, and robust South-South cooperation. Highlighting the longstanding cultural, religious, and historical bonds between Pakistan and Sudan, the Minister called these ties a powerful basis for expanding collaboration in agri-trade, research, and technological exchange.
Minister Hussain also spotlighted Pakistan’s strengths in agricultural research, crop production, irrigation techniques, and veterinary sciences—resources he said could effectively contribute to Sudan’s development goals in agriculture. He welcomed Sudan’s interest in educational cooperation, particularly the request to increase Sudanese student placements at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and assured full support in that regard.
Ambassador Salih Mohamed Ahmed, expressing Sudan’s goodwill, spoke about the religious harmony in his country, where over 98% of the population follows Islam, and lauded the historical trust shared with Pakistan. He appreciated the Minister’s keen attention to Sudan’s current challenges and acknowledged Pakistan’s readiness to support development through agriculture-based initiatives.
The two sides also explored the idea of a trilateral partnership between Sudan, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. Minister Hussain termed the proposal of joint agricultural ventures involving Sudan’s fertile land, Pakistani know-how, and Saudi investment as a “visionary step” to bolster regional food security. He showed strong interest in Sudan’s sugar sector and meat exports, encouraging Pakistani entrepreneurs to explore avenues in processing technologies and meat infrastructure development.
Highlighting Sudan’s credibility in exporting disease-free meat to Gulf nations, Minister Hussain called for deeper collaboration in livestock health, poultry development, and veterinary sciences. He emphasized Pakistan’s willingness to provide technical assistance in these critical areas.
The Minister also praised the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Sudan, noting their role in technical services and skilled labor as a symbol of enduring mutual trust between the two brotherly nations.
Concluding the meeting, Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain reiterated his vision of positioning Pakistan as a regional center for agricultural diplomacy and innovation. He said Pakistan’s partnerships with countries like Sudan not only promote economic and human development but also embody the shared commitment to a more food-secure and interconnected Global South.
