ISLAMABAD – In a major stride toward modernization and global integration, Somalia has officially launched its electronic visa (e-Visa/eTAS) system, marking a transformative moment in the country’s immigration and travel policy. Starting September 1, 2025, all foreign travelers will be able to apply for Somali visas online through the dedicated government portal: www.evisa.gov.so.
This long-anticipated digital platform, developed by Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA), eliminates the need for embassy or consulate visits—making visa applications faster, more secure, and accessible from anywhere in the world.

“This is a historic initiative that brings Somalia in line with the most advanced digital visa systems globally,” said Isaaq Hassan Taakow, Director of the Department of Foreigners and Immigration.
The launch of the e-Visa/eTAS platform is a strong signal of Somalia’s commitment to innovation, national development, and international engagement. It reflects a growing digital infrastructure and an increasingly connected Somalia that is opening up to the world in more accessible and efficient ways.
Somalia Embraces the Future of Travel
ICA Director General Mustafa Duhulow emphasized the strategic importance of this digital leap:
“Today, Somalia joins the global community in adopting cutting-edge digital visa solutions. This system will not only enhance border security and protect sensitive data, but also boost economic growth by encouraging tourism, investment, and international cooperation.”
The platform is designed with user-friendliness and transparency in mind. All visa fees will be processed online, with direct transfers to the Ministry of Finance, ensuring both efficiency and accountability.
Exemptions and Special Categories
While the e-Visa system will be mandatory for most travelers, the ICA confirmed certain exemptions:
“Everyone else will now be required to obtain an e-Visa prior to arrival,” Duhulow clarified.
A Transparent and Secure Travel Experience
Minister of Internal Security Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag hailed the system as a cornerstone of national progress:
“The e-Visa system ensures transparency, increases government revenue, and most importantly, strengthens our national security infrastructure while welcoming global travelers.”
Specially trained staff and digital systems will facilitate efficient processing and rapid approvals, signaling Somalia’s readiness to offer world-class services to travelers, investors, NGOs, and international partners alike.
Somalia Steps Boldly Into the Digital Age
With this ambitious and forward-looking initiative, Somalia positions itself as a leader in East Africa’s digital transformation. The e-Visa system is more than just a travel convenience—it’s a powerful symbol of Somalia’s modernization, resilience, and openness to global collaboration.
As of September 1, Somalia welcomes the world—with a digital gateway that reflects its ambitions for a more secure, connected, and prosperous future.
