- Formal Launch Streamlines Documentation, Strengthens Consular Services for Somali Community in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD – The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Pakistan has officially announced the commencement of its National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) card services for Somali citizens residing in the country.
In a formal communication to the community, the Embassy confirmed that its consular section is now fully operational and equipped to process and issue the crucial national identification documents. This long-awaited service marks a significant enhancement in the mission’s capacity to serve its nationals in Pakistan.
“This vital step ensures that our citizens have streamlined access to official documentation, which is fundamental for legal status, administrative processes, and accessing various services,” stated Ambassador of J.F.S of Pakistan Honorable Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan. “We encourage all Somali nationals in Pakistan to utilize this essential service to regularize their documentation.”
The NIRA card serves as the primary proof of identity and nationality for Somali citizens, both domestically and abroad. Its issuance from the Islamabad embassy will significantly ease bureaucratic hurdles for students, businesspeople, and families, facilitating tasks ranging from residency formalities to financial transactions.
The embassy has advised eligible individuals to prepare necessary supporting documents, including previous identification and proof of Somali citizenship, and to contact the consular section directly for detailed application procedures, fee schedules, and appointment bookings.
This expansion of consular functions underscores the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with its diaspora and provide critical services to citizens overseas. The Somali community in Pakistan has warmly welcomed this initiative, crediting the dedicated efforts of His Excellency Ambassador Sheiknhur Mohamed Hassan for turning this long-held aspiration into a reality.
