DUBAI: Michael Caine, Sigourney Weaver, Stanley Tong and Rachid Bouchareb are among the first wave of cinematic icons to be honoured at the Red Sea International Film Festival — set to take place from Dec. 4-13 in Jeddah’s historic Al-Balad district.

The festival’s “Honoree Award” recognizes artists whose work has left an indelible mark on global cinema — and this year’s selection reflects the breadth and depth of storytelling across generations and geographies. Caine — a two-time Academy Award–winning English actor whose career spans decades and encompasses unforgettable roles — is being honored for his enduring impact on film.

Weaver, a towering presence in Hollywood and one of the most versatile actors of her generation, also joins the honors list. The festival cited her “significant contributions to cinema throughout (her) remarkable career.”

Bouchareb — the French director, screenwriter and producer of Algerian descent celebrated for his poignant films — will also be recognized, highlighting RSIFF’s commitment to spotlighting influential voices from across the world, including the Arab world and beyond.

Meanwhile, Tong, the Hong Kong director, screenwriter and producer, is known for his work on action films.

Festival organizers said the honorees were chosen because they represent “the very best of global film — artists whose work has inspired audiences around the world and added to the fabric of cinematic culture.”
