Pakistan and Uzbekistan Boost Labor Cooperation with New Employment Opportunities for Overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, held a productive meeting with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Ali Sher Takhtaev, focusing on expanding employment opportunities for Pakistani workers in Uzbekistan.

Ambassador Takhtaev highlighted the historic, religious, and cultural ties between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, emphasizing the vast potential for collaboration in key sectors including information technology, medicine, agriculture, and labor mobility. He noted that joint initiatives could drive economic growth and create meaningful employment for the peoples of both countries.

Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain shared Pakistan’s successful experiences with labor export pilot projects to South Korea and Japan, which have resulted in promising outcomes. He expressed Pakistan’s keen interest in launching a similar pilot initiative with Uzbekistan to facilitate the employment of Pakistani workers.

With over 12 million Pakistanis currently employed abroad, Pakistan ranks among the top 10 countries globally in remittance inflows. In the fiscal year 2025, overseas Pakistanis sent a record $38.8 billion back home, with the goal of increasing this figure to $50 billion over the next few years.

In a significant step forward, both sides agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to explore and operationalize employment opportunities for Pakistanis in Uzbekistan, reinforcing bilateral ties and supporting regional economic prosperity.
