Pakistan and Bulgaria Mark 60 Years of Diplomatic Ties with Pledges for Stronger Cooperation

Islamabad Pakistan and Bulgaria celebrated the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year, reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in trade, education, and culture. The milestone was marked by an exchange of warm congratulatory messages between the Foreign Ministers of both nations, highlighting six decades of friendship and shared aspirations.

A Legacy of Friendship

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1963, Pakistan and Bulgaria have maintained cordial and cooperative ties. Over the decades, the two nations have collaborated in various fields, including education, science, agriculture, and defense. Bulgaria was among the first Eastern European countries to recognize Pakistan’s strategic importance, while Pakistan has valued Bulgaria’s role as a bridge between Europe and South Asia.

To commemorate this occasion, the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Bulgaria exchanged congratulatory messages celebrating our shared achievements. The messages emphasized our commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across various sectors in the interests of both nations.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Both sides acknowledged the untapped potential in trade and investment. Pakistan’s textile, agricultural, and IT sectors offer significant opportunities for Bulgarian businesses, while Bulgaria’s expertise in pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and infrastructure development could benefit Pakistan. The two nations agreed to explore new avenues under the EU-Pakistan Strategic Engagement Plan, with Bulgaria’s support.

Educational and cultural cooperation remains a key pillar of the relationship. Over the years, Bulgarian universities have hosted Pakistani students, particularly in medicine and engineering.
