NEW YORK – The Kingdom of Morocco once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and international law as it voted in favor of the New York Declaration at the United Nations General Assembly, calling for the establishment of an independent State of Palestine alongside Israel.
Morocco was among the 142 nations that endorsed the draft resolution, underscoring its principled foreign policy rooted in dialogue, coexistence, and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Ahead of the vote, Morocco had already reaffirmed its longstanding position at the Arab League Council on September 4, stressing that the two-state solution is the most credible and viable path to end the decades-long conflict. At today’s UN session, Rabat renewed its firm rejection of Israel’s “unacceptable measures” and called for an urgent ceasefire to stop the ongoing suffering of civilians.
The Moroccan delegation welcomed the growing global consensus in favor of Palestinian statehood, describing the international community’s support as a step toward restoring justice, ensuring stability, and upholding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. Morocco further emphasized that the two-state solution remains the only realistic way to achieve lasting peace in the region, preserve balance, and protect future generations from the cycle of violence.
The UN resolution, supported by a vast majority of member states, not only calls for implementing the two-state solution but also denounces the Israeli blockade that has caused severe humanitarian suffering in Gaza. It equally condemned Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attacks.
Palestine welcomed the overwhelming support, with senior officials praising the countries — including Morocco — that stood firmly on the side of justice and international legality.
Morocco’s steadfast diplomacy, grounded in the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, continues to be a voice of balance and reason on the world stage, championing peace and defending the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
