RABAT — His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco presided over the official ceremony appointing the members of the new government at the Royal Palace in Rabat, marking an important milestone in the Kingdom’s political and institutional development following the parliamentary elections held on September 23.

The ceremony reflected the central role of the Moroccan monarchy in guiding the country’s institutional continuity, promoting effective governance and advancing national development priorities. The new government, headed by Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, is expected to pursue an ambitious programme addressing citizens’ expectations while responding to Morocco’s economic and social priorities.

The appointments followed the King’s decision on September 29 to entrust El Mansouri with forming the new government. On October 14, she was received at the Royal Palace, where she briefed His Majesty on the progress made in assembling the government team.

Continuity and Experience in Key Ministerial Portfolios

The new cabinet combines experienced officials with new appointments, reflecting an approach that seeks to maintain institutional stability while bringing renewed momentum to government priorities.

Abdelouafi Laftit retained his position as Minister of the Interior, while Nasser Bourita continued as Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates. Abdellatif Ouahbi was appointed Minister of Justice, and Ahmed Toufiq continued to lead the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

Their appointments underscore the importance of continuity in key areas of domestic administration, diplomacy, justice and religious affairs as Morocco advances its national development agenda and strengthens its international partnerships.

Faouzi Lekjaa Takes Charge of Economy and Finance

Among the notable changes, Faouzi Lekjaa was appointed Minister of Economy and Finance. Widely recognised for his experience in public finance and sports administration, Lekjaa previously served as president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget.

His appointment comes at a time when economic growth, investment, fiscal management, employment opportunities and improved public services are expected to remain important priorities for the new government.

The cabinet’s composition reflects an effort to bring together political experience and professional expertise in addressing Morocco’s evolving economic and social challenges.

King Mohammed VI’s Royal Guidelines to Shape Government Priorities

Following the appointment ceremony, Head of Government Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri reaffirmed that the new administration would work in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines set out by King Mohammed VI, particularly those articulated in the Throne Speech and the speech marking the opening of Parliament.

She said the government would develop and implement an ambitious programme designed to meet citizens’ expectations, address major national challenges and deliver tangible improvements through effective public policies.

El Mansouri described the government as a team formed by four political parties with shared principles and converging programmes. She emphasised that the parties would work together as a harmonious majority, guided by a common vision and a coordinated programme of action.

Expressing her honour at the appointment of the government by His Majesty the King, El Mansouri highlighted the competence and professional experience of its members, as well as the significant representation of women and young people.

She added that the government programme would be presented to both Houses of Parliament and would focus on practical solutions responsive to the aspirations and expectations of Moroccan citizens.

A Renewed Commitment to Citizens and National Progress

The new government begins its mandate amid public expectations for stronger economic opportunities, improved public services, social development and effective responses to pressing national challenges.

Under the strategic direction of King Mohammed VI, the administration is expected to translate its stated priorities into concrete policies and measurable outcomes, while reinforcing Morocco’s institutional stability and development ambitions.

The royal appointment ceremony represents an important step in the country’s political transition following the parliamentary elections. As the new cabinet prepares to present its programme to Parliament, attention will turn to its ability to deliver inclusive growth, strengthen public confidence and advance the Kingdom’s long-term national objectives.

Morocco’s next phase of governance will therefore be closely associated with the implementation of the King’s Royal Guidelines and the government’s capacity to turn its commitments into meaningful progress for citizens.
