Islamabad – The Embassy of Romania in Pakistan has marked the successful completion of one year since the launch of Pakistan’s first-ever structured opera course, a landmark cultural initiative implemented in collaboration with the Pakistan National Council of the Arts in Islamabad.
A Historic Cultural Milestone
Introduced in April 2025, the program represents a pioneering effort to bring the classical art of opera to Pakistan, opening new avenues for artistic expression and education. The courses are conducted twice weekly—every Wednesday and Friday—under the expert guidance of acclaimed Romanian soprano Georgiana Costea-Glugă.

Strengthening Cultural Diplomacy
The initiative stands as a testament to Romania’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and its vision of strengthening bilateral ties with Pakistan through meaningful artistic exchange. By introducing opera to a new audience, the program not only enriches Pakistan’s cultural landscape but also fosters deeper people-to-people connections between the two nations.
Romania’s distinguished operatic heritage, supported by prestigious institutions such as the Romanian National Opera and the National Opera of Cluj-Napoca, underpins this initiative. This rich tradition continues to inspire Romania’s efforts to share its cultural expertise on a global stage.
Nurturing Talent and Creative Exchange
Over the past year, the opera course has attracted a growing community of young and aspiring musicians, providing them with a unique platform to explore the discipline of opera. Through professional mentorship and structured training, participants have gained valuable exposure to a globally celebrated art form.
The program highlights the transformative power of music in building bridges across cultures, promoting mutual understanding, and encouraging creative collaboration.
An Open Invitation to Aspiring Artists
Reaffirming its dedication to cultural enrichment and artistic education, the Embassy of Romania in Pakistan invites students, music enthusiasts, and aspiring performers to join the ongoing courses. The initiative continues to play a vital role in shaping a vibrant and dynamic cultural community in Pakistan while strengthening the enduring partnership between the two countries.
