Rome, September 16 — The Embassy of Pakistan in Italy hosted a landmark public event today, commemorating Marka-e-Haq and Pakistan’s Defence Day, in the presence of the Honourable Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OPHRD), Chaudhry Salik Hussain, who is currently on an official bilateral visit to Italy.
The event began with a Flag Hoisting Ceremony, setting a solemn and patriotic tone for the day’s proceedings. A special Town Hall session with members of the Pakistani diaspora followed, reflecting the Embassy’s ongoing commitment to community outreach and transparent engagement with overseas Pakistanis.
In his welcome address, Ambassador of Pakistan to Italy, praised the exceptional contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Italy, which now stands at over 300,000 strong. He emphasized the community’s role as a vital bridge between the two nations and a source of pride for Pakistan.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Salik Hussain underscored the enduring significance of Marka-e-Haq as a symbol of national unity and collective resolve. He strongly condemned the ongoing human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people. Special prayers were offered in memory of the Shuhada (martyrs) of Marka-e-Haq and the victims of recent climate-related disasters in Pakistan.
During his visit, the Honourable Minister also inspected the Embassy’s Consular Section and interacted with visitors. He commended the Mission’s efforts in improving public service delivery, including the successful relaunch of NADRA counters and proposed establishment of Police Khidmat Markaz (PKM) in all four provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan.
The event was attended by over 150 participants, including members of the community, students, entrepreneurs, and media representatives. It served as a powerful reaffirmation of the Embassy’s proactive role in community engagement, public diplomacy, and strengthening the bond between Pakistan and its diaspora in Italy.
