Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Ethiopian Envoy, Kicks Off Women Journalists’ Sports Event in Islamabad

Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Islamabad  H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, inaugurated the Women Journalists’ Sports Gala 2025 at Marghzar Cricket Ground on Sunday.

The event, organized by the National Press Club (NPC), Women Journalists Caucus, Capital Premium League, and other partners, aimed to promote sports and women’s empowerment in media.

Upon arrival, the Ambassador was received by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Afzal Butt, NPC President Azhar Jatoi, NPC General Secretary and Women Journalists Caucus Chairperson Nayyer Ali, and Pakistan Africa Friendship Association (PAFA) Chairman Zafar Bakhtawari.

Dr. Jemal ceremonially bowled the first ball to kick off the match. Addressing the media, he emphasized the role of sports in fostering social cohesion, national unity, and a healthy society. He also highlighted its potential in strengthening cultural ties between nations.

Praising Pakistan’s passion for sports, the Ambassador reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to enhancing people-to-people relations with Pakistan, citing Ethiopia’s excellence in athletics, particularly long-distance running.

He lauded the women journalists for their participation in the event and extended his best wishes for their professional and sporting endeavors.

The gala showcased a spirited display of sportsmanship, reflecting the growing role of women in media and society.
