
ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, met today with His Excellency Mr. Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Pakistan, to explore new avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
In a warm and constructive meeting, both sides discussed strengthening collaboration in environmental protection, trade, investment, and participation in major international forums. They also reviewed preparations for the second part of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on developing a legally binding global treaty on plastic pollution, scheduled next week in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr. Malik emphasized that global environmental agreements must account for the socio-economic realities of developing nations like Pakistan, ensuring access, affordability, and sustainability. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing climate-friendly policies while safeguarding the rights, livelihoods, and well-being of its people.
Highlighting the Government’s Green Startups Initiative—a flagship program under the Prime Minister’s vision for sustainable development—the Minister explained plans to empower young entrepreneurs to launch eco-friendly ventures, attract international investors, and contribute to Pakistan’s green economic growth. He expressed hope for Qatar’s valuable partnership in taking this initiative to the global stage.
Ambassador Al-Khater lauded Pakistan’s security cooperation during the FIFA World Cup 2022 and expressed deep appreciation for the strong bonds between the peoples of Qatar and Pakistan. He underscored Qatar’s keen interest in expanding cooperation in climate action, trade, and investment, reaffirming Doha’s commitment to long-term partnership with Islamabad.
The meeting concluded with both sides reiterating their resolve to broaden cooperation in environmental sustainability, economic partnerships, and people-to-people exchanges.
Also present were Secretary Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Ms. Aisha Humaira and Special Secretary to the United Nations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Nabeel Muneer.
