Diplomats Join COMSATS ‘Forever Green Plantation’ Drive for Environmental Sustainability

ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 – As part of its ongoing Green Initiative, the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) continued its dedicated plantation drive, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and global climate action.

At the invitation of COMSATS Executive Director, Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, several distinguished envoys joined the campaign by planting tree saplings, symbolizing unity, peace, and shared responsibility toward the planet.

Participating in the drive were:

  • High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, H.E. Rear Admiral (R) Fred Seneviratne
  • Ambassador of Somalia, H.E. SheikhNur Mohamed Hassan
  • Ambassador of Uzbekistan, H.E. Alisher Tukhtaev
  • Ambassador of Zimbabwe, H.E. Titus Mehliswa Johnathan Abu Basutu

The symbolic plantation event showcased COMSATS’ growing global partnerships and the importance of diplomacy in tackling climate change through science and technology.

The ambassadors praised COMSATS’ proactive environmental initiatives and emphasized the value of international scientific collaboration in addressing pressing climate challenges. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting COMSATS’ mission of promoting technology-based solutions for a sustainable, resilient future.

Highlighting the role of science and technology (S&T) in achieving global sustainability goals, the diplomats underscored the importance of multilateral cooperation in advancing innovation and green practices in the Global South.

COMSATS, an intergovernmental organization representing 27 Member States, is at the forefront of South-South cooperation in scientific research, technology development, and knowledge exchange. Its Green Initiative is part of a broader agenda to integrate sustainable practices into scientific advancement, aiming to contribute meaningfully to global climate resilience.

This latest plantation drive is one of several ongoing actions by COMSATS to foster environmental consciousness and mobilize collective action for a greener future.
