Ambassador Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan Strengthens Cooperation with the United Nations to Support Somali Refugees in Pakistan

Islamabad – The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan, held a productive meeting with senior officials of the United Nations system in Pakistan to discuss the welfare and long-term solutions for Somali refugees residing in the country.

The meeting brought together Mr. Mohamed Yahya, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, and Ms. Philippa Candler, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Discussions focused on addressing the diverse challenges faced by Somali citizens in Pakistan, enhancing access to humanitarian assistance, and promoting skill development programs to empower the refugee community.

Ambassador Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Somalia to work closely with the United Nations and its agencies to ensure the protection, self-reliance, and dignity of Somali refugees. Both sides also emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral coordination to find durable and sustainable solutions for the displaced Somali population.

The Ambassador expressed his sincere appreciation to the United Nations, particularly UNHCR, for their continued support and tireless efforts in assisting Somali refugees and promoting humanitarian cooperation in Pakistan.
