In order to expand and deepen interregional cooperation and implement the agreements reached during the 12th meeting of the Kazakh and Pakistani Joint Intergovernmental Commission, Ambassador H.E. Mr. Y. Kistafin conducted a working trip to the Punjab province, to establish twinning relations between the cities of the Shymkent and Faisalabad, as well as Turkestan and Lahore.
During the visit to Pakistan’s textile capital, Faisalabad, the Head of the Diplomatic Mission met with the city’s leadership, Commissioner of Faisalabad, Ms. Silwat Saeed. The Ambassador briefed on the ongoing and planned activities aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries at provincial and city level.
Ms. S. Saeed highly appreciated the effort of the Embassy, and expressed interest in establishing twinning relations with Shymkent, along with forging contacts with official and business circles.
During the visit, a series of meetings with the business community of Faisalabad, and negotiations with the leadership and members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry also took place. H.E. Mr. Y. Kistafin spoke about the business climate of Kazakhstan, and promising areas for cooperation.
Special focus was given to the potential projects in the light industry, including the possibilities of the Ontustik SEZ were presented.
The Ambassador of Kazakhstan also visited leading textile enterprises, to familiarize himself with the production process and the range of products.
In addition, the Embassy delegation visited the National Textile University – NTU, where they met the Rector of NTU, Mr. Tanveer Hussain, and got acquainted with the activities of the University, i.e. its research developments and achievements in the light industry.
H.E. Mr. Y. Kistafin, for his part, informed the interlocutor about the available opportunities for developing cooperation with universities in Kazakhstan specializing in this industry.
Negotiations between the Ambassador Y. Kistafin and the Lahore’s Commissioner, Mr.Muhammad Ali Randhawa, took place in the cultural capital of Pakistan, Lahore.
The parties discussed twinning between the cities of Lahore and Turkestan, as well as areas of high potential and mutual interest.
For his part, the Commissioner stressed the importance of the ongoing work to strengthen regional connectivity, and expressed full support for the announced plans.
Later, the Ambassador participated in a celebratory event marking the first anniversary of the opening of Kazakhstan House in Lahore.
During the reception, H.E. Mr. Y. Kistafin engaged with the leadership and members of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Lahore, Gujrat, and Sheikhupura, to discuss enhancing bilateral trade and business ties.
As a result of the trip to Faisalabad and Lahore, an agreement was reached to organize visits of delegations to Kazakhstan to develop and implement joint investment and trade projects.
