KARACHI – In a move set to bolster trade corridors between South Asia and Europe, a landmark partnership agreement has been formalized to enhance maritime and logistics infrastructure in Pakistan. The strategic alliance brings together International Cargo Terminals (ICT), a subsidiary of the Danish global shipping giant Scan-Group A/S, and Bahria Transshipment Hub of Pakistan (BTHP).
High-Level Endorsement from Danish Diplomacy
The formal signing ceremony, held in Karachi, was attended by Her Excellency Maja Derrous Mortensen, the Danish Ambassador to Pakistan. Ambassador Mortensen’s presence underscored the strategic importance of this collaboration, highlighting Denmark’s commitment to fostering robust commercial partnerships and long-term economic growth with Pakistan. Her attendance signals strong governmental support for deepening bilateral trade ties.
Strengthening Maritime Infrastructure
The agreement was officially signed by Asim Saeed Khan, Managing Director of International Cargo Terminals (ICT), and Commodore (Retd) Shahab Qamar, CEO of Bahria Transshipment Hub of Pakistan (BTHP). This partnership is poised to streamline cargo flows and enhance connectivity between key terminals, leveraging the strengths of both organizations to optimize the regional supply chain.
Expansion of Northern Bypass Terminal
Concurrent with the partnership announcement, ICT highlighted the ongoing expansion of its state-of-the-art Northern Bypass Terminal in Karachi. This critical infrastructure project is designed to:
- Boost Inland Capacity: Significantly increase the volume of cargo handled away from the congested port areas.
- Reduce Port Congestion: By diverting and processing container traffic more efficiently, the terminal will alleviate bottlenecks at the Karachi ports.
- Streamline Cargo Flows: The facility ensures seamless integration between port operations and inland distribution networks.
