A Spanish tourist has been attacked and gang raped in a region of northern India, where she was on vacation with her husband on a motorcycle tour.

The husband of an attacked woman has claimed that his wife was raped by seven men while they were threatened with death inside their tent.

“They attacked us in the store, they beat us, they put a knife to my throat saying they were going to kill us, and seven men raped her,” said the man in a video recording from the hospital where they receive treatment.

Her partner, who accompanies her in the recording, with blows all over her face, pointed out that they were also robbed by the men who assaulted her, although she stated: “we had very little, her real motive was to rape me.”

According to the authorities, the couple set up a tent in the Dumka district, a remote area in the state of Jharkhand, to spend the night on Friday, when the men attacked them.

Three arrested

The Indian police confirmed this Saturday the arrest of three people involved in the brutal attack.

According to the account of the attacked couple, “the victim counted about 7 men involved in the crime and we have arrested 3 of them,” police inspector Pitamber Singh Kherwar confirmed to journalists.

“It is a condemnable incident and the police are taking appropriate action. The culprits will not be spared,” Mithilesh Kumar Thakur, the regional minister of the state of Jharkhand, told the press.

The Spanish embassy in India has contacted the authorities and has sent personnel to consult the region.

The couple began a journey around the world about five years ago.
