KHARKIV: At least three people were killed and nine others injured in a Russian missile strike on a grocery store building in the suburbs of Kharkiv on Sunday evening, according to local Ukrainian authorities.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, reported the attack in a statement posted on Telegram. He said the initial reports indicated that the missile had struck near a grocery store, leaving several people injured.

In an initial update, Syniehubov said six people had been injured, including a child, and that medical teams were providing the necessary treatment.

He later confirmed that three people had been killed and nine others wounded, including two children, as a result of the strike on the grocery store building.

A fire broke out at the scene following the attack, with five cars reportedly engulfed in flames. Emergency responders were dealing with the aftermath as further details emerged.

The incident comes amid continued Russian attacks on the Kharkiv region and its critical infrastructure. In his evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also reported a Russian strike on Kharkiv’s CHP-5 combined heat and power plant on Saturday, October 10.

The latest attack adds to concerns over the safety of civilians and damage to essential infrastructure amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
