ISLAMABAD: Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) hosted a high-level academic lecture on August 24 featuring Professor ENDO Ken, Chair and Professor of International Politics at the Faculty of Law, the University of Tokyo, who spoke on “Japan’s FOIP 3.0 and the Future of Middle-Power Diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific.”
The lecture was held at the SPIR Seminar Hall of QAU and brought together senior university officials, faculty members and students for an in-depth discussion on Japan’s evolving foreign policy and its strategic engagement in the Indo-Pacific.
Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, Vice-Chancellor of QAU, attended the event, while Dr. Muhammad Nadeem Mirza, Director of the School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR), delivered the welcoming remarks.
H.E. Mr. AKAMATSU Shuichi, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, also attended the seminar and delivered the opening address, highlighting the importance of academic and intellectual exchanges in strengthening mutual understanding between Japan and Pakistan.
In his lecture, Professor Endo provided valuable perspectives on Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision, particularly the concept of FOIP 3.0 and its implications for the future of middle-power diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific. He also discussed the evolving regional strategic landscape and Japan’s role in promoting cooperation, stability and a rules-based international order.
Faculty members and students participated with keen interest, followed by an engaging question-and-answer session that provided an opportunity for participants to exchange views directly with Professor Endo on Japan’s foreign policy and the broader geopolitical dynamics of the Indo-Pacific.
The seminar underscored the importance of academic diplomacy and intellectual engagement in fostering stronger Japan-Pakistan relations and enhancing understanding of emerging strategic developments in the Indo-Pacific region.
