- Two Climbers Reportedly From Bosnia Die at 5,100 Metres as Rescue Teams Search for Four Others
NALCHIK, July 26: Two foreign mountaineers have died while climbing Mount Elbrus, Russia’s highest peak, an emergency services official said on Sunday.
“Both victims are foreigners. Preliminary information indicates they are from Bosnia,” the official told media.
According to authorities, a group of seven climbers began their ascent on July 25. One member later descended and reported that two climbers had fallen ill at an altitude of around 5,100 metres.
The two mountaineers were subsequently reported dead, while an Elbrus high-altitude search-and-rescue team launched an operation to locate the remaining four members of the group.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation. Russia’s Investigative Committee has initiated a pre-investigation inquiry into the incident.
