- Foreign Ministers Meet on Sidelines of SCO Council to Deepen Economic Cooperation and Regional Coordination
CHOLPON-ATA, Kyrgyzstan – Kazakhstan and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding their strategic partnership, with a strong focus on boosting bilateral trade, enhancing regional connectivity, and strengthening cooperation in multilateral forums.
The commitment was made during a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Yermek Kosherbayev, and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, H.E. Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held on the sidelines of the Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Member States in Cholpon-Ata.
Focus on Trade, Investment and Regional Connectivity
The two ministers reviewed the positive trajectory of Kazakhstan-Pakistan relations and reaffirmed the high level of political dialogue between their countries.
Discussions focused on expanding trade and economic cooperation, accelerating the implementation of joint development projects, and enhancing transport and logistics connectivity to facilitate regional commerce.
Both sides also reiterated their commitment to achieving the target set by the leaders of the two countries to increase bilateral trade volume to US$1 billion, emphasizing the need for practical measures to unlock the full potential of economic cooperation.
Commitment to Regional and Global Cooperation
The ministers exchanged views on key regional and international developments and underscored the importance of closer coordination within major international and regional organizations.
They reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation through platforms including the United Nations (UN), the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
Pakistan Supports Kazakhstan’s International Water Initiative
During the meeting, the Kazakh side expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s support of the initiative proposed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to establish the International Water Organization.
The proposed organization aims to enhance international cooperation in the sustainable management of global water resources and promote collaborative solutions to growing water security challenges.
Both Sides Pledge to Advance Strategic Partnership
Concluding the meeting, the two foreign ministers reaffirmed their determination to further strengthen the Kazakhstan-Pakistan strategic partnership by implementing existing agreements, expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, and maintaining an active and constructive political dialogue.
The meeting reflected the shared commitment of both countries to deepening bilateral relations while promoting regional stability, economic integration, and sustainable development through enhanced diplomatic engagement.
