New Zealand shocked Egypt early when Finn Surman opened the scoring with a powerful header after 15 minutes, putting the Kiwis ahead.

However, Egypt responded with confidence and determination. Mostafa Zico brought the Pharaohs level by heading home a cross from Mohamed Hany, giving Egypt renewed momentum.

The turning point came in the 67th minute when Salah combined brilliantly with Zico before curling a superb left-footed strike into the net, sending Egyptian supporters into celebration.

Salah then turned provider, creating the chance for substitute Trezeguet, who sealed the victory with a low header to complete a historic night for Egyptian football.

Egypt Top Group G After Landmark Achievement

The victory moved Egypt to the top of Group G with four points, leaving them needing only a draw against Iran in Seattle on Friday to secure a place in the last 32.

“This is something we will remember for many years. It is one of the achievements in our history,” Salah said after the match.

The Egyptian captain also praised the passionate supporters who filled the stadium, saying the atmosphere felt like playing at home.

“It feels like we are playing in Egypt. It is a great win and a great feeling,” Salah added.
