KAZAN: Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed to expand cooperation in the protection and promotion of historical and cultural heritage, according to a joint declaration adopted at a summit in Kazan.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment to preserving cultural identity while encouraging international collaboration in the fields of history, arts and heritage conservation.

Focus on Protecting Tangible and Intangible Heritage

Under the agreement, Russia and ASEAN member states will support initiatives aimed at safeguarding both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

The cooperation will include the exchange of knowledge, expertise, skills and modern technologies among government bodies, cultural organizations and public and private institutions.

Officials said the partnership is designed to create inclusive and mutually beneficial opportunities for cultural development and strengthen connections between communities.

Greater Collaboration Among Experts and Researchers

The declaration also calls for increased cooperation among cultural specialists, researchers and academics from Russia and ASEAN countries.

The two sides agreed to encourage interdisciplinary research and promote the exchange of ideas to advance studies related to heritage preservation, cultural development and historical understanding.

Supporting Youth, Education and Creative Industries

Russia and ASEAN further pledged to promote educational programs focused on culture and the arts, creative industries and youth-led initiatives.

The initiatives aim to combine heritage protection with innovation, ensuring that younger generations remain actively involved in preserving cultural traditions while developing new approaches for the future.
