KYIV — Ukrainian long-range drone strikes targeted several Russian energy infrastructure sites overnight, damaging an oil tanker and refinery facilities in Taganrog while also hitting an oil depot in Armavir, according to Russian regional officials and Ukrainian military sources.

The attacks form part of Kyiv’s ongoing campaign to disrupt Russia’s fuel and logistics networks that support military operations in Ukraine.

Fires Extinguished After Strike on Taganrog Port

Rostov Region Governor Yury Slyusar said fires that broke out aboard a tanker and within the port area of Taganrog were quickly brought under control. Authorities reported no oil spill following the incident.

Two people were injured in the attacks, according to regional officials.

Meanwhile, Taganrog Mayor Svetlana Kambulova announced that the local state of emergency, initially imposed on May 27, had been extended as authorities continued to assess the situation.

Russian Air Defenses Respond to Large-Scale Drone Attack

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air-defense systems intercepted and destroyed 127 drones during the night.

Governor Slyusar stated that nearly 50 drones were downed over the Rostov region alone, where multiple districts reportedly came under attack. Despite the scale of the operation, officials described damage outside Taganrog as limited.

The Rostov region borders Ukraine’s Donbas area, which remains a central battleground in the conflict.

Armavir Oil Depot Fire Brought Under Control

In Russia’s neighboring Krasnodar Krai region, authorities in Armavir reported that a fire at an oil storage facility in the city’s industrial zone had been contained. Officials said no casualties were recorded.

Ukraine’s military confirmed that Armavir was among the targets struck during the overnight operation.

Kyiv Says Strikes Aim to Weaken Russia’s War Logistics

The commander of Ukraine’s drone forces said Ukrainian units had successfully struck targets in Taganrog as well as an oil depot in Feodosiya, located in Russian-controlled Crimea.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later confirmed the strike on the Armavir oil facility, located approximately 500 kilometers from Ukraine’s border.

“We are rightfully bringing the war back to where it came from. Russia could have ended its aggression long ago, but instead chose to prolong and continue it,” Zelensky said in a statement.

He added that another key facility linked to Russia’s oil industry had been successfully reached in Armavir, underscoring Kyiv’s strategy of targeting infrastructure considered vital to Russia’s military and economic operations.

Pressure on Russia’s Energy Network Intensifies

The latest strikes highlight Ukraine’s expanding ability to conduct deep-penetration drone operations against strategic targets far from the front lines. As both sides continue to escalate long-range attacks, energy infrastructure has emerged as a critical arena in the broader conflict, with oil depots, refineries and logistics hubs increasingly coming under fire.
